Plot

As Homer clumsily attempts to build a spice rack for Marge, Maggie sneaks up and hits him on the head with a mallet. Marge is initially puzzled as to why Maggie would attack Homer, but notices that Maggie readily imitates the acts depicted on The Itchy & Scratchy Show, a cartoon program filled with violence. She blames the makers of the show for Maggie’s actions and bans Bart and Lisa from watching it, but the two sneak out to see it at their friends’ houses. Marge writes a letter to the studio asking for the violence to be toned down, but chairman Roger Meyers, Jr. sends a dismissive reply, which goads Marge into showing him what a lone dissenter can do.
“I’m cataloguing the violence in these cartoons. I don’t think adults have ever actually sat down and watched them before.”
